Food Bank Provides Year-Round Support for Families in Need
Zulma is a full-time, single, working mother. The summer months are extra challenging for her family, because her daughter and son rely on school meals that are not available during the summertime. Zulma depends on the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank's Summer Lunch Program to help provide nutritious food for her 16-year-old son and her 9-year-old daughter.
Thankfully, families like Zulma's have access to the Food Bank's Summer Lunch Program. The meals are planned by the Food Bank's Child and Nutrition Programs team to be both kid-friendly and nutritious and are distributed at 70 partner agencies of the Food Bank across Los Angeles County.
"Good food is always more expensive," Zulma explains. "You have to decide either to eat nothing, or eat something that's not nutritious. I think if there were no programs like this in the community, it would be devastating. A lot of kids would be hungry."
Like most of the people we serve, Zulma is among the working poor. Although working full-time, the high cost of housing and living in Los Angeles means that Zulma depends on the Food Bank and our agency partners to feed her family.
Planning a gift to support the Food Bank will ensure that children, families and seniors in Los Angeles County will be able to have healthy meals throughout the year.
