Patricia

Have you noticed how much more expensive everything is right now? Inflation has caused the prices of gasoline, electricity, food and so much more to skyrocket in Los Angeles County. At a recent food distribution in Cudahy, we met Patricia, who turned to the Food Bank for help when prices at the grocery store crept up.

"Everything is very expensive. Yesterday, I went to buy cooking oil, and the bottle that I used to buy for $16 is now $20."

Four dollars might just be a small annoyance to some, but for Patricia, who lost her job in August of 2020 and has not found full-time work again, there is simply no room in the budget for extra expenses. She has made big changes in her diet, noting that meat has nearly doubled in price. Even then, "tomatoes, avocados, lemons—they're all more expensive now!"

By coming to Food Bank distributions, Patricia is able to save the money she makes as a part-time dog sitter to pay bills like rent, which she says also increased.

"All of this that you do, it's priceless. You're here month after month, giving us food without charge."

The support of donors like you means that Patricia can always turn to the Food Bank for balanced, healthy meals, no matter what.
