Food Bank volunteer

A Food Bank volunteer helps facilitate food distribution to families and individuals in need at the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation.

A steady job doesn't guarantee you can afford to feed your family. The soaring cost of food, gas and utilities, and other day-to-day expenses are crushing the household budgets of so many low and middle-income families. Meet Paul Hesse. Paul has a household of three, who rely on food assistance to make ends meet. He visits one of our trusted partner agencies, the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation (MAOF), to help fill the pantry because money is tight. He shared, “I come here for the fresh fruits and vegetables. It helps the household budget; with food prices going up as much as they have, it helps a lot.”

Mayra Gutierrez, Supervising Case Manager, Senior Services at MAOF, credits MAOF’s partnership with the Food Bank as a crucial relationship, as she sees the impact the food distribution makes on individuals in the community. Gutierrez said, “Without the LA Regional Food Bank, we wouldn’t be able to provide the services that we provide here at MAOF. It is through the Food Bank that we gather all the food we distribute.”

For half a century, the Food Bank has been committed to the fight against hunger. Since its inception, we have provided the equivalent of 1.6 billion meals to those in need. In 2022, we served nutritious food to an average of 800,000 individuals every month. Through the support of our network of more than 600 partner agencies, staff, volunteers and donors, we remain steadfast in our mission to mobilize resources to fight hunger in our community.

You can help provide needed nourishment to those in need by making the LA Food Bank part of your legacy. Learn how by contacting Debra Beadle at 310-569-3180 or [email protected].
